If you are really interested in sailing big boats then you should have good knowledge of sailing boats. For this it is necessary to take proper sailing class. You should decide whether you are interested in taking the sailing class locally or in any other location like a resort. You should also visit potential schools if possible. If you contact a national certifying organization then you can get the names of the potential schools and after that you can visit schools one by one or check their websites.

Always go for those schools that obey the rules of national standards. Other private schools which offer sailing class can also provide you high quality training but the schools which conforms national standards have their curriculum examined and approved. Select the format of the course that suits best your needs. Some schools which offer sailing classes provide multiple and short lessons while some offer intensive live abroad courses. There are many other variations from one school to another.

You should always take a close look at the types and size of the boat used by your potential school for teaching. The range of keelboats used in sailing course is in between 20 and 40 feet. Now find the list of course materials. A good keelboat course should have nationally distributed text books.

You should have knowledge of about your instructor qualifications. The instructors who are self trained are often qualified, but the instructors who are certified by national certifying organization have national standards ability. Compare the features of different schools like number of students per class; number of class ours, size of boats, type of boats etc. On the whole you should select that school for sailing class which suits you best.
